Precision FANUC-Driven System Overcomes Manual Bottlenecks

A leading industrial electrical component manufacturer needed to dramatically increase the throughput and efficiency of their testing process.  Their existing manual system was a bottleneck, limiting production and requiring extensive human labor.

Aladdin Engineering and Manufacturing, Inc. custom-designed a robotic test system, featuring a six-axis FANUC industrial robot and a multi-station parallel testing approach.

These features increased production line takt time to 25 seconds while ensuring 100% test coverage and part traceability, resulting in a significant boost to overall production efficiency.

The engineering team at Aladdin expertly designed and built a specialized robotic test system to meet the customer’s production and efficiency requirements.  The core of Aladdin’s solution is a six-axis FANUC industrial robot, which provides unparalleled flexibility and precision.

Key Features:

  • Parallel Processing: Four individual test fixtures operate simultaneously and independently. While one part is being tested, the robot can be loading or unloading other stations, eliminating idle time.
  • Automated Handling: A six-axis FANUC robot with two parallel pneumatic grippers automatically loads relays into the test fixtures and unloads finished parts. This eliminates the need for manual handling, significantly reducing labor costs and cycle time.
  • Traceability and Quality Control: Before testing, a Keyence barcode scanner identifies each part, ensuring full traceability. Passed parts are sorted onto two different lanes of a motorized outlet conveyor based on an assigned process code, while failed parts are systematically unloaded into a reject tray. This fully automates quality control and part sorting.
  • Ergonomics and Efficiency: The machine is designed with an ergonomic height for manual or automatic loading, reducing operator strain. The quick-change tooling feature allows for minimal changeover time, supporting the customer’s need for flexible production lines.
